Star Trek, like most properties over at Paramount+, is ramping up production to keep up with Hollywood’s increasing demand for franchise entries in established IPs. However, more production usually means tougher competition, which means even good products that fans have come to love and enjoy might get the axe to make way for new content.

After Star Trek: Discovery‘s surprise cancellation, showrunner Michelle Paradise has come out to talk about her potential return to the franchise and the possibility of it never happening. Having joined the show only midway through Season 2, her tenure on the show has delivered some of the best material in modern Star Trek, which makes it very likely that she would make a comeback to helm any of the numerous shows that are currently in the works for Star Trek.

Michelle Paradise revealed to Cinemablend that she enjoys the property a lot, having grown up with the IP. With regards to her return to Star Trek, she was clear that she would love to return to it. She said:

Oh, wow. I love Star Trek. I mean, I grew up on Star Trek so it’s been a dream to get to be part of this iteration of it. And all of the folks I’ve worked with have just been so lovely. So, if the opportunity arose, I would love to come back and be part of it in some way. And, if that opportunity doesn’t arise, I’m forever part of this family, and that in and of itself is just an amazing gift.

As a showrunner for Star Trek Discovery, Paradise appreciated the fact that she was allowed to be part of the family but was completely open to returning to the franchise. Given that IP has at least three other projects in the running now, Paradise could easily return to be part of any of these.

Paramount has two major IPs that can finally do for it what Halo could not

While the opportunity for Halo to become a giant-sized IP outside of video games might not have worked out, Paramount has the space opera side of things covered with Star Trek, There is also the fact that the studio is investing heavily into Avatar Studios, which is set to expand that franchise exponentially as well.

Given that Dinsey has largely divided itself into IP lines, other companies are scrambling to get such a model in place for themselves as well, which would allow them to at least have a fighting chance against the media giant, as it devours one studio after the other in it’s bid to have more lucrative IPs in house.
