For a sitcom centered around nerd culture, the Star Trek references in The Big Bang Theory seemed quite fitting. But apart from the male characters’ fascination with the IP, who also appeared to be fluent in Klingon, the sitcom itself was packed with cameos from several Star Trek icons, including the OG William Shatner.

Even though his cameo in the sitcom was long in the making, it wasn’t until the final season that Shatner finally turned up for TBBT, and with Stuart Saves the Universe on the horizon, we can only hope for history to repeat itself.
Stuart Saves the Universe could use some Star Trek firepower
After two prequel shows, TBBT is finally set to branch off to the future with Stuarts Saves the Universe, marking the return of Kevin Sussman in the shoes of the titular role. While the plot details regarding this expansion remain under wraps, Stuart’s The Comic Center of Pasadena can prove to be a great vessel for guest cameos, if the showrunners opt to go that route.

Moreover, considering it’s shaping out to be the first TBBT spin-off that is not a prequel, it’d be somewhat poignant if William Shatner‘s jaded sci-fi legend from TBBT returns to bridge the generations of nerd culture.
Given how much Star Trek was embedded in TBBT, Shatner’s potential appearance in Stuart’s comic book shops would serve as a great nod to the older fans of the show while serving as an introduction to a new generation.
Jim Parsons doesn’t share his TBBT counterpart’s love for Star Trek

To say that Sheldon, both in the parent show and Young Sheldon, was passionate about Star Trek would be a severe understatement, making his pairing with Shatner in The D&D Vortex all the more special. Ironically, Jim Parsons once confessed that he had never watched Star Trek and Doctor Who, and in addition to that, he was never too occupied with pop culture.
He told Time:
I’m very frank about certain things, I get asked a lot of science things and I’m like, ‘You’re kidding’. And even the pop culture… I’ve never seen Star Trek. I don’t know Doctor Who.]
Although it’s a hard pill to swallow for longtime fans of the show, this further serves as a testament to Parsons’ commitment to Sheldon, and his trophy cabinet, which includes 4 Emmys, speaks for itself.
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will premiere on April 6, 2025.
