Star Trek: The Next Generation was released in 1987 and introduced the world to a plethora of new characters and actors, who remained iconic forever. Some actors like Sir Patrick Stewart became forever memorable while others… were somewhat forgotten.

One of these actresses, who had found much fame for her role in Star Trek: The Next Generation, was Marina Sirtis. The English actress had portrayed the iconic role of Counselor Deanna Troi in the show. However, no one remembers the Stargate SG-1 character that she portrayed 6 years after The Next Generation ended.

Marina Sitris also became a part of Stargate SG-1

It was in 1997 that a show named Stargate SG-1 was aired, starring Richard Dean Anderson in the main lead. Alongside the actor, a plethora of stars such as Christopher Judge, Michael Shanks, and more had joined across the 10 seasons that the show spanned.

In Star Trek: The Next Generation, Sirtis portrayed the role of Counselor Deanna Troi, and her iconic portrayal of the character brought her worldwide fame and critical acclaim. However, when the show ended in ’94, the actress found herself lacking options for another iconic role.

It was in season 4, episode 7 of Stargate SG-1 that Sirtis made a guest appearance in the role of Dr. Svetlana Markov. Since it was only a guest appearance, many might not remember the role of Marina Sirtis in that show, but despite less screen time, the actress did a wonderful job.

The episode would go down in history as one of the finest episodes of Stargate SG-1, since this was the episode where they realized that the “water” that they were looking at contained microbe aliens.

Although the actress was forgotten for a while, Marina Sirtis never went too far away from the Star Trek franchise. Despite Star Trek: The Next Generation ending in 1994, the actress remained a part of the franchise throughout.

Marina Sirtis was asked to reprise her Star Trek role

In the 1987 show, Sirtis portrayed the role of Counselor Deanna Troi, but that wasn’t the only series in which she was given the role. After the show ended, Sirtis remained a part of the franchise by reprising her role in other notable Star Trek movies and shows!

Sirtis went on to reprise her role in the films Star Trek Generations, First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis. During one of her interviews with SciFiandTvTalk, the actress even revealed that she was quite happy to return.

I loved it because it opened the door to a different side of Troi we’d never seen before. That door has stayed open and that whole kind of wacky, zany Troi thing has continued into the next movie, which is great for me because I like to do things that are different.

In modern times, Marina Sirtis reprised the iconic character in three episodes of Star Trek: Voyager, and her most recent portrayal was in 2020 with Star Trek: Picard.

Star Trek: The Next Generation, which started it all, currently stands at a rating of 8.7/10 on IMDb and a whopping 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, with millions of viewers enjoying it to this day.

Star Trek: The Next Generation is available to stream on Paramount+ (USA).
